Akubra Hat Care

Akubra’s are an Australian icon. Starting in 1874 in Tasmania, Akubra hats are still made in Australia in Kempsey NSW.

Caring of your Akubra is an easy process with just a few things to remember;

• First and foremost – never leave your hat in the car or in direct sunlight when not being worn
• If the hat becomes wet, do not force dry, just let it happen naturally
• Akubra hats are shower-proof. As the hat ages the water proofing during manufacture may break down and the felt will absorb water. Generally, your head will remain dry.
• If the hat needs a deep clean, you should send it to a hat cleaning specialist. If it is only slightly soiled with dirt/grime you can clean it yourself. First brush the hat in an anticlockwise direction to remove the dirt and then rub the affected area with a dry cleaning fluid. Do not use too much
• Use a small amount of steam, such as from a kettle, to assist in returning the fur back to its original direction and shape
• When not being worn, store your Akubra either upside down on a table or shelf. Do not rest it on the brim as this can sometimes pull the whole hat out of shape. Another way to store your hat is to hang it on a hat stand or hook
